Chapter Twelve
“Why’s that stupid Pi always so slow?” Nino complained. He and Sho were waiting outside the basketball locker room. Most of the other players had already left quite a while ago. “I bet you he’s the only one who’s still showering. He didn’t drown in there did he?”
“Do you wanna go in and check?” Sho asked.
“No.” Nino replied curtly, as Kame walked out of the room, talking on his mobile. “Oi, Kame, did Pi drown in there?”
Kame looked at Nino, distracted. “Huh?”
“Kame-chan! I’m so sorry for making you wait for me!” Yamapi shouted dramatically as he walked out of the room.
“What do you mean you made Kame wait? What about us?!” Nino glared at Yamapi.
“Eh? Why are you two still here? I thought you two had already left for your ramen date.”
“Who’s drowning? What date? Ramen?” Kame asked as closed his mobile phone.
“Ja, we gotta go. You guys have fun!” Yamapi started running off to the exit, pulling Kame along.
“Oi! Where are you going?!”
“Date!”
“Date?!”
“With Kame?”
“With me?”
“Ja!”
* * * * *
“Ume!” Nino exclaimed after taking mouthful of ramen. “Waaah, to think that this shop is so near my house and yet I haven’t been here before. And it’s damn cheap too!”
“It’s good right? This was the ramen shop that Aiba-chan brought me to the last time.”
Nino took another big mouthful of ramen and mumbled something under his breath.
“Eh? Sorry I didn’t hear what you said.”
“Hm? Uh, I’m just saying the ramen’s good.”
“Sou desu ne!” Sho happily continued to eat his own bowl of ramen.
“You don’t think Pi’s really going on a date with Kame right? That’s like suicide. Ryo will kill him.” Nino said quickly, trying to change the subject.
“Er, true, but Yamapi’s kinda unpredictable.” Sho replied, while he silently thanked Yamapi for not coming along with them. He suspected that Yamapi was just trying to help by giving them a chance to be alone. After all, Yamapi did sorta offer him help before. Deciding that he shouldn’t waste his junior’s efforts, Sho made up his mind to make use of the opportunity. “Ah… Nino, I want to show you another place later.”
“Hm? Doko?”
“Er, just some place.”
“What place?” Another place that the stupid Aiba fellow found again?
“Ah, you’ll see it later.”
“Why so secretive?” I hope it’s not that stupid guy’s house.
“Erm, you’ll know later.”
“I want to know now.” Especially if it’s that guy’s house! So that I can get out of it now!
“Patience is a virtue ne. Be good.” Sho laughed as he patted Nino on the head.
Patience, my foot! Nino grabbed another chunk of ramen violently and shoved it into his mouth.
“Eh, Nino, be careful not to choke, kay?”
Nino mumbled under his breath again.
“Nani?”
“Nothing, this ramen’s delicious.”
* * * * *
“Sugoi! The river looks so pretty in this light! ” Nino exclaimed as they settled down on the grassy slope by the river. “So this is where Sho-kun wanted to show me? Me and Pi used to come here all the time as kids!”
Sho was disappointed. After all the hard work and planning, this place wasn’t something new and special to just Nino and himself, but was a childhood hangout of Nino and Yamapi -
“Haha, I just remembered how Pi ran butt naked around here once!”
NOOO! It’s now a place iconic of a butt naked kid called Yamapi! Sho shook his head. No, no. He had promised himself that he would do this right. So he was going to.
“Erm, Nino?”
“Nani?”
“Erm,” Sho took a deep breath. “I got something important to tell you.”
“What?” Nino stated nonchalantly, but inside his head he was panicking. Oh no, Sho-kun’s telling me he has something important to tell me! Oh no, he’s going to confide in me about THAT, I’m sure!
“I think that I’ve actually felt this way all this while, but didn’t really realise it till recently. Then, I didn’t really dare to say anything, and it was only the other day, when Aiba-chan-”
Oh no I’m right! Sho-kun’s gonna tell me that he likes his ‘Aiba-chan’! Argh. Stupid Aiba Masaki fella! Waaaaaaaah. Now I must act happy for him and his ‘Aiba-chan’! Waaaaaaaaah! It must be my retribution for rejecting Nagase-sempai so bluntly! Waaaaaaah. Why must this happen to me?!! This is just so terrible-
“Boku. Nino no koto suki da yo!”
“…”
“I know it’s sudden. You don’t have to decide immediately.” Sho said quickly. “You can take your time to think about it.”
“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to what you said earlier. Could you repeat what you said again? Please?”
“EH?! You weren’t paying attention?!”
“Yeah, please repeat.”
“You didn’t hear what I said?” Sho winced. “But, argh. I had the setting and timing all perfect. Now, you want me to repeat? Ah, but now the mood isn’t right for me to say it again.”
“What do you mean the mood is not right?” Nino started to get snappy. “Just repeat yourself! What’s so hard about that. Why do you need have a certain mood to just repeat what you said?”
“Because what I said needs to be said when the setting, timing and mood is right.”
“That’s just stupid.”
“Why didn’t you just hear me the first time? I told you I was going to tell you something important!”
“I just didn’t hear you alright! Who asked you to go on and on and mention Aiba-chan and all! And now you can’t even repeat yourself. Argh. Forget it. I’m going home.”
“Nino-”
“Not listenin-” Strong arms pulled the smaller boy into an embrace as Nino’s protests were silenced as Sho’s lips on his.
After the moment of blissful silence, Sho pulled away. “Suki da yo.”
“…”
“De?” Sho probed at Nino’s lack of reply.
“What?”
“What do you mean ‘what’? It’s your turn to reply.”
“Why must I reply? You said earlier I could take my time to think about it.”
“Eh?” Sho protested.
“That’s what you said.” Nino replied flatly.
Sho sighed. “Ok. Fine. So how long do you need?”
“Saa… Who knows.”
“Who knows?!”
“Yeah, I need time to think.” Nino grinned mischieviously. “You see, lately, I’ve got lots of people confessing their love to me.”
“Nino!”

P.S I luv Kame-kun lol Of course I love others as well. They are so cute but if possible could you finish the sequel. I’m so excited
