Chapter Six
Ryo waited impatiently outside of Kame’s house. It was a Sunday, but he had gone there really early, to make sure that he wouldn’t miss the chance to talk to Kame in case Kame got dragged out by Yamapi for something again. Ryo was sick of Kame ignoring him for the past week, and the latter hanging out with someone else was enough to make him more bitter. But he knew he was at fault, and that he would have to apologised for his actions.
The first thing Ryo needed to do now though was to make sure his other half stops ignoring him and gives him the chance to explain. He wondered if he should just ring the doorbell so that at least he could wait for Kame in the house instead of loitering outside and looking like some crazy stalker.
Ryo whipped out his cell phone and started dialling Kame’s number, which he already knew by heart. He knew there was a probability of Kame rejecting his phone call, but he was stubborn enough to keep trying anyway if that happened. To his surprise, Kame answered the call after a few rings.
“Moshi moshi?”
“Kame I’m standing outside of your house.”
“Eh?”
“I know it’s early and you probably haven’t even had your breakfast but I’ll really like if you could lemme inside your house cos one of your neighbours is staring at me right now. Or rather, leering at me. I’m good-looking, I know, but I don’t like being stared at in that way. Makes me feel like I’m naked and on display.”
“Why are you here so early for?”
“Because you’ve been ignoring me so I figured the only way I’ll get to talk to you is if I come to your house?”
“Oh. You noticed.”
“Of course I noticed. So, lemme in.” Ryo rolled his eyes. “Please?” He added as an afterthought.
Ryo heard a melodramatic sigh over the line, before Kame replied, sounding rather reluctant as he did so. “Fine, I’ll be right down.”
* * * * *
Kame was surprised that Ryo had bothered to come all the way down to his house just to ‘talk’. It was true that he had deliberately ignored Ryo for most of the week, but it wasn’t as if Kame was going to keep up the cold war forever. And he also noticed that Ryo tried to be nicer to him over the week because of the cold treatment. But Kame had honestly thought that Ryo would get sick of his own childish behaviour and just leave him alone to sulk until he got tired of sulking.
“I’m sorry.” Ryo said as Kame closed the door behind them.
Kame looked at his best friend, almost staring rather. He wondered if an alien had abducted Ryo, because the real Ryo wouldn’t apologise, would he? As Kame kept silent, Ryo continued.
“I guess I didn’t realise that kicking you out of the house wasn’t exactly nice of me to do.” Ryo said sheepishly. “It’s just that I hadn’t seen Uchi in ages, so naturally I was happy about his surprise visit. But at the same time I felt that it wouldn’t be right for you to be there as well. It’s like… I dunno, mixing oil with water?”
Kame raised an eyebrow at Ryo’s analogy. “So am I water or am I oil?”
“I’m not saying one of you is oil and one of you is water. Geez. I’m just saying that it felt wrong to me to have you both in my house at the same time.”
“You mean like having your wife and your mistress in the same house?”
“……That sounds wrong yet right at the same time.” Ryo frowned.
“So Uchi-kun is your boyfriend ne?” Kame asked. He had guessed that the relationship between Ryo and Uchi was more than that of friendship, since he first saw them, and Ryo’s reaction — kicking him out — made the idea of Ryo and Uchi being a couple more possible. He felt the need to clarify though, just to be sure.
Ryo shook his head, biting his lip as he replied. “Ex-boyfriend. I’m not going out with Uchi anymore.”
“…Sou ka.”
Ryo glanced at Kame, before continuing.”We broke up before I moved here.”
“…Sou.”
“Uchi said that it would be difficult for us to maintain our relationship if we’re hardly gonna see each other.”
“… Sou ka.”
“Don’t you have anything to say other than ’sou ka’?” Ryo sighed, exasperated.
Kame shrugged. “What do you expect me to say?”
“Whatever you’re thinking right now.”
“I’m thinking that I wanna eat milk pudding.”
“…”
“I’m hungry!”
Kame wasn’t sure what to feel right now, and he was definitely not going to tell Ryo what he really thought right now. Well, I know Kame-chan likes Akanishi but sometimes I think that maybe you actually like Ryo-chan more. That was what Yamapi had said to him the other day, and when his friend had told him that, he had no real reply. He wasn’t even sure anymore what was going on between the two of them.
“You’re still my other half, y’know.” Ryo said suddenly. “My other half is very important to me, because without my other half I would be incomplete… but, I’m willing to give up my other half for my one true love.”
It hurt.
Maybe Yamapi was right after all, that he did like Ryo more than he liked Jin. What he had for Jin was admiration and infatuation. What he felt for Ryo was… Kame wasn’t sure if he could say it was love, but it was something. And hearing what Ryo said hurt. Because no matter how important he was to Ryo, ultimately, he can only be second best.
“Kame?”
“I’m still hungry. Are you going to buy me milk pudding?” Kame asked, trying to act like he was unaffected. “Shouldn’t your apology come with something more concrete?”
“You mean all this while, all I needed to do was buy you milk pudding?”
“No, you had to suffer a bit first.”
“Well, I think I suffered enough. Pfft.” Ryo declared. “So now, we’ll go get your milk pudding, and then hang out. Because you’ve been hanging out with that sneaky guy all week and ignoring your best friend! Yamapi already has one best friend, I don’t see why he has to steal mine.”
“I thought you liked Pi? I thought whatever Pi did was so cute to you.”
“Not since he started trying to steal my other half. Just because his best friend decided to ignore him for a while. Che.” Ryo narrowed his eyes. “And when did you start calling him ‘Pi’?”
Kame shrugged. “I dunno. I just did.”
“And anyway, Yamapi has so many people to choose from to be his second best friend, why did he choose you? Why didn’t he choose me? I offered so many times but he rejected me!”
“You’re totally ridiculous.” Kame rolled his eyes. “So are we going to get my milk pudding now?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
As they made their way out of the house, Kame decided that maybe things were better this way. What he had with Ryo was enough.

The chance of you meeting the person whose hand you hold now is like a miracle. Even after you step out into the light, please don’t let go of that hand. Those words were ingrained in Yamapi’s thoughts ever since the previous day, his feelings upon reading those words jumbling up his thoughts. He felt guilty, he felt confused, he felt afraid.
After he had read that message, he had turned to the person whose hand he was holding… a move which Yamapi soon realised was a mistake. His breath was caught in his throat, for at that instant, he was overwhelmed by how reluctant he was to turn away; and the unexpectedly familiar ache he felt at the thought of having to let go of the hand he now held. It was then that the weight of realisation hit him. That somehow along the way, his feelings for Kame had grown beyond simple friendship. Somehow his feelings had sneaked up on him, only to catch him by surprise. It was that realisation that scared him.
It was wrong. He wasn’t supposed to feel that way towards Kame. The other was his good friend, that’s it.Yamapi had let go of Kame’s hand the moment they stepped out, feeling guilt overwhelm him. Yet the moment his hand released Kame’s, he had this strong urge to take Kame’s hand back, and he started regretting it.
It was confusing the hell outta him.
Hoping to keep his mind off Kame, he decided to keep himself occupied by making hismelf a night time snack. His cell phone rang just then, but Yamapi allowed it to ring for a while, doing the dance moves to “Seishun Amigo” while waiting, hoping that the caller would give up and he didn’t have to pick up the call. He wasn’t in the best of moods, and talking was not something he felt like doing at the moment. But when the ringtone didn’t stop playing, he finally picked up his cell phone to check who was calling, just in case, and winced when he saw the name. He was going to get screamed at for taking so long to pick up the call.
“Moshi baby. Does Nino miss me?” Yamapi answered, trying to sound cheerful.
“You baka. What took you so long to answer the phone? Don’t tell me you were busy dancing to your ringtone or something.”
“Sugoi! How did you know?”
“Because I know you?” Nino replied, his voice turning to one of concern. “Is everything okay?”
Sasuga Nino. Yamapi thought. His best friend would be able to sense his depression no matter what facade he tried to put up. Yamapi didn’t want to talk about it though, so he just shook his head, as if Nino could see him.
“Hm, nothing… Why did you call me for?”
“Is there something going on between you and Kame?”
“Eh?” Yamapi’s thoughts returned to his source of confusion once more. He shut his eyes, as if shutting out those thoughts. He couldn’t let Nino know.
“All those weird guys who used to confess their love to you are like harassing me with phone calls all day, asking if you’ve changed your sexual preference, since the reason you gave for rejecting them was that you didn’t swing that way. Yet it appears that you were at Hyouyama’s bunkasai acting all lovey-dovey with some guy, and the name they were given was ‘Kamenashi-kun’. What’s going on?”
“Ah… it must be a misunderstanding.”
“Misunderstanding? Weren’t you saying that you wanted to matchmake Kame with that Hyouyama guy? How the hell did it end up with you two being mistaken as a couple?”
“Eh, you see… er, I had a plan to try to make Akanishi jealous and see me as a rival for Kame by pretending to be Kame’s boyfriend. Haha. It’s a stupid plan right? It didn’t work at all.”
“And now everyone thinks you really are Kame’s boyfriend. Wow. Wonderful. I’m never going to get rid of your mad fans who will continue harassing me about this. Oh, but I bet all those people who thought both of us were a couple are going to think I got dumped by you.”
“As if! It was the other way round! You dumped me for Sho-kun!” Yamapi protested. “And anyway, don’t worry, I’m sure the rumour will die down and people will stop harassing you for information.”
“I hope so. Not just for me. But for Kame’s sake too.”
“… You make it sound like it’s bad to be linked romantically with me.”
“It is.”
“Oi. C’mon. Nino, I know you love me. You’re just too shy to admit it.”
“Haha. Keep on dreaming.” Nino said sarcastically. “Anyway, going to bed now. Gotta meet some stupid sensei early in school tomorrow. Oyasumi.”
“Oyasumi.”
Yamapi sighed as he put down the phone. He stared at his half-made sandwich, that didn’t look appetizing at all anymore. He grabbed a huge bite of it, then threw the rest away and slouched off back to his bedroom. Yamapi decided he should just go to sleep and pretend everything was okay for now. It was going to be a long day tomorrow.

“Is it just me or are a lot of people staring at us?” Ryo commented as he and Kame made their way into school on Monday morning. “I must look really hot these days. First your neighbour was leering at me. Now the people in school.”
“Yah and they’re probably wondering why someone so ugly like me is allowed to walk next to you, right?” Kame rolled his eyes. “I’m hungry.”
“Is that your favourite phrase nowadays?” Ryo shook his head. “Oh well, you’re so skinny anyway. Let’s get something from the canteen.”
“Hey Nishikido!”
The two of them turned to find a group of senpais heading towards them. Ryo frowned, and pushed Kame along. “My senpais from tennis. Just ignore them. They don’t like me.”
“Hey Nishikido-kun.” One of them tapped Ryo on the shoulder. “C’mon, we’re your senpais after all, surely you can show some respect to us by at least answering us when we call you?”
“I didn’t realise it was a senpai calling. It just sounded like noise interference to me.” Ryo deadpanned sarcastically, shrugging the person’s hand off his shoulder.
“Ah, I know we haven’t been very nice towards you, but we just wanted to show you our sympathy. It must feel really bad to have been made to look like a fool.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, Nishikido-kun hasn’t heard?”
“Why don’t you stop beating about the bush and just spit it out.”
“Nah, I think it’s better if you just ask your little wife next to you. Wouldn’t want to interfere in domestic affairs.”
Ryo looked at Kame, frowning. Kame shrugged, equally confused. Turning back to his senpais, Ryo resisted the urge to punch them. “If that’s all you wanted to say, then please allow us to take our leave.” Grabbing Kame’s hand, he walked away from them as fast as possible.
“What did they mean?” Kame asked as they reached the shoe changing area.
“How would I know? They’re annoying in the first place. They just got more annoying.” Ryo replied as he changed his shoes.
As Ryo started walking off, he realised that Kame hadn’t moved. Walking back, he was about to scold Kame for daydreaming when he saw Kame staring at several pieces of paper in his hand.
“Kame? What’s wrong?”
“Eh? Uh, nothing.” Kame said, shaking his head and moving to hide the pieces of paper when Ryo grabbed them from him. “Wait-”
Ryo’s eyes widened when he read the messages. A number of them calling Kame a two-timer, some others calling him a whore, and even a few asking him to go jump off the building and die. Ryo felt his blood boil.
“Ryo-chan, I’m not hungry anymore, let’s just go to class.” Kame said quietly, as he started walking off towards the classrooms.
“Oi Kame-” Ryo was about to protest and drag Kame towards the canteen, but seeing Kame’s face, he decided not to force his best friend. “Kame… if you want I can buy some food for you.”
Kame merely shook his head. Ryo was worried, but he knew Kame was stubborn, much like himself. And there was no point in asking Kame anything now. It was clear that Kame wasn’t going to talk much for the rest of the day.
They walked in silence towards the classroom, with Ryo shooting death glares at a few people on the way when he noticed people staring at them. The moment they stepped into the classroom, they were greeted loudly by Toma and Taisuke.
“Kame! Ryo-chan!”
“Kame, is it true?”
“Is what true?” Ryo answered for Kame, who kept quiet. Ryo was a little annoyed that his two friends had to choose now of all times to bug his other half.
“They say that Kame is dating Yamapi!”

@Chapter 1
*is still jumping around*
Aw~ I’m so happy u finally posted it up! *hearts*
And I’m also happy that Jin didn’t get to appear more than for this one scene *gets killed by Akame-fans* XD Haha, no seriously, he’d just make things even more complicated right now, while Kame and Ryo needed to figure their issues out first ^.~
Kame constantly sulking just makes me wanna pat him all the time – So cute *laughs* It’s a pity Yamapi never got to stay close to him for long, but well, shouldn’t have Ryo get jealous, too, right now, ne? *pats Ryo as well for having to bear with a jealous!Kame* *rofl*
Speaking of Ryo, for some reason the ‘Yamapi’s willing slave’ term had me crack up so badly. Wonder if he’d really go as far as become a willing slave for Pi like Kame suspects XD
And I loved this part:
“But I like Kame too.” Yamapi stated easily.
“Yamapi, you’re making this whole thing more complicated. Don’t make the shape even weirder!”
“It’s still a square.”
“Oh yeah, you’re right.”
————————————–
Yay for Taisuke’s logic! XDDD
But to keep it a square I’m sure Jin will have to show up again soon. Really curious how this next encounter is going to be~
So, don’t forget (haha, as if my constant bugging would let u forget about it XD) to post the next chapter up on Kame’s bday, ne? ^_______________________^
@Chapter 1
See! It’s posted! It’s posted even if Idol-chan said it wasn’t going to be~! x3 And it’s 6 pages of a lovely, printed ficcy~ It’s even more lovely than the…oh my, I forgot mom bought be doughnuts! *looks at the clock* It’s past 11 pm ;___;~ Too late for sweets…
I absolutely loved the “keitai strap” quarrel~ I’m obessed with matching straps and it was so cute~ Ryo-chan is really mean to Kame sometimes ^_^; Such a baka. But on the other hand it was incredibly sweet how when he asked Jin to go on a date with Kame, but lied to Kame later~ *glomps both of them* Just why was Jin simply sitting there and not even noticing them? Should I feel sorry for him, because he was tired or scold him for ignoring others? *blinks*
I laughed at Pi’s conspiracy… So childish. So was the conversation with Taisuke…. How come you guys make them so…how to put it not to offend the boys… well… stupid? XD
“See! Three! There’s one more I don’t know about!”
“Eh, Kame, I was talking about you.” – my favorite part xD So clueless it hurts~!
Sho-kun’s “time-out” also fitted there perfectly. Is his mind ever off the court? Of course, if Nino isn’t around?
Eh, Nino was lucky to get that surprise bday party. It had to be a surprise if it was a week earlier, nee. Such a pity it usually happenes in fanfiction and movies only. I’d like one, too. But before I started complaining at my friends not being creative enough, I dropped my jaw at Taisuke’s announcement. That boy is scary ^_^; *glomps Taisuke* Or maybe Yamapi the Drama Queen is the scary one..?
“childhood sweethearts” = OMG XDDD I envy Sho for not being jealous and killing Pi XD He’s so calm *admires Sho*
Ryo-chan’s talk at the end…SWEET ;___;
So. Do I really have to say it was – - – perfect? *fangirls* It’s good to know that I don’t =^____^=
Oh, but the way, I’ll just use the opportunity and compliment the new layout! ^_^ It’s extremely loveable. It’s just a pity that it’s black… Black is no good, too dark for me… But it’s cute anyway **^__^** Yay~! *glomps the layout*
Just stab be for being so irrationally cheerful today *hides*
*glomps the authors*
@Chapter 1
yay! I really liked this. and yup, it was really sweet of Ryo to ask Jin out for Kame even though he likes him. poor Ryo, and I loved sulking and jealous Kame! ^_^ I also agree with SumeragiAeka about the layout. Love the pictures used, and looking forward to reading the next chapter!
@Chapter 1
ohhhhhhh…. this is great! i read “double” not too long ago and really enjoyed it. i’m so glad you’re now writing (another, lol) fic with a prominent kame… and potentionally one of my favorite pairings, too.
