DOUBLE FAULT

Chapter Three

There weren’t many people in school yet when Kame strolled through the school gates, a clear indication that he was early for school. He had left home earlier than usual that morning. Usually he only left when Ryo met him at his house, but still peeved with the way Ryo had kicked him out of the house over the weekend, Kame wasn’t in a mood to put up with Ryo’s idiosyncracies that morning. If it wasn’t for Yamapi cheering him up, he would probably be angrier with Ryo and wouldn’t have bothered sending Ryo a message to tell the latter not to meet up with him.

Recalling the date with Yamapi, Kame smiled. His friend really knew how to cheer people up. But one thing Kame realised was the similarity between Yamapi and Ryo’s OTL Uchi. Both were tall, had a pretty face, but a rather kakkoii side to them. And Ryo liked both of them. Guess it’s Ryo’s ‘type’ huh.

Sliding into his seat, he rested his head on the table, intending to grab a few extra winks. But he didn’t get to rest long when someone shook him violently.

“Oi Kame, why did you come to school so early today?” He heard Ryo ask. “And why didn’t you reply my message when I asked you why?”

Kame rolled his eyes and turned away from Ryo, returning to his slumber. At least I bothered to send you a message. I could have left you waiting for me without saying a word.

“You’re still sleepy and yet you bothered to come to school early for no reason? You’re really weird, y’know.” Ryo continued. Getting no reply from Kame, Ryo sighed melodramatically. “Fine, go get some rest. I’ll wake you up when class begins.”

Kame was glad that Ryo didn’t bug him any further, but was annoyed that Ryo didn’t seem to have any inkling at all about what was wrong. Surely it was obvious that Kame was angry with Ryo for kicking him out just because of Uchi’s surprise visit. Kame knew he shouldn’t be so petty, but he just couldn’t help but get mad with Ryo the more he thought about it.

When Ryo woke him up, Kame didn’t bother to thank him. He ignored Ryo for the rest of the lesson and the day. But maybe because he had been ignoring everyone else as well — except for Yamapi during break time — Ryo didn’t seem to take it seriously yet. The only time Ryo showed any reaction was precisely when Kame talked to Yamapi. Kame couldn’t help but feel a little happy seeing Ryo looking a little jealous, but that didn’t mean he was going to forgive Ryo so easily this time. He had already let Ryo off for the previous incident with Jin. No way was Ryo going to get away with it so easily again.

“We’ll have the presentation of your project next week? That should be enough right? Very simple project. I expect everyone to give me a good presentation.” Their teacher said to the class. “So you guys can pair up and then decide on your topic.”

Ryo was about to turn to Kame as the rest of the class started picking their partners, when the latter looked away from him and called out to Taisuke instead, who was seated a few desks away from them.

“Taisuke, I’ll partner you.”

Taisuke looked momentararily stunned. So did Ryo. He couldn’t understand why Kame was so mad with him again. Ryo turned to Toma who was seated in front of him. “Oi, I’ll partner you then.”

“Erm, okay.” Toma said warily, but decided against saying anything else.

Toma and Taisuke looked back and forth between Kame and Ryo, who refused to look at each other. Both stubborn and unwilling to give in, whatever it was they were fighting over. Taisuke looked at Toma, who shrugged, and he decided he should just directly ask Kame and Ryo what was wrong but kept quiet when he saw Toma put a finger to his lips.

“Hottoke yo.” Toma mouthed.

Taisuke nodded as he turned back to them. Then shook his head and mumbled to himself. “These two are always fighting. They’re really like a couple.”

“Nino?” Sho stuck his head into Nino’s classroom, looking for Nino so that they could go home together as usual, but the latter was nowhere in sight. Sho frowned as he noticed that Nino’s seat was empty.

“Sakurai-senpai, Nino’s on library duty.” One of Nino’s classmates, who Sho recognised as one of the three ‘K’s that Nino mentioned before, informed him.

“Thanks!” Sho smiled and turned to leave. He could hear them whispering about how Nino and him seemed to have gotten really close and that Sho practically came to their classroom every day. Along the corridors, he could hear some other year ones chattering among themselves, his ears picking up both his and Nino’s names. It kinda bothered him a little, especially if those people were talking bad about Nino. But he remembered telling Nino to be careful not to make too many enemies, and Nino merely said it didn’t matter to him.

Sho pushed the glass doors to the library, the cool breeze from the air conditioning rushing to his face. There were only about two students at the tables reading, and a student librarian on duty. He didn’t see Nino anyway, and was heading towards the counter to approach the student librarian when he spotted Nino along one of the aisle.

Nino was on a ladder, a few books in his hands as he returned them to their original places arranged the other books on the shelf. He mumbled to himself as he did so, as if saying out the author names or book titles made it easier for him to arrange the books in order. Or maybe he was just plain bored and sick of the silence that he had no choice but to talk to himself as a form of entertainment. Whatever it was, Sho found the sight before him terribly cute, as he stood by the corner watching silently.

“Eh? This book shouldn’t go here. Who’s the stupid idiot who- Shit!” Nino tripped off the ladder just then, and he closed his eyes ready for the hard impact, praying that he wouldn’t injure himself, and hoping that the ladder wouldn’t topple and fall on top of him either. Instead, he found himself on top of something like a large cushion, or rather, falling into someone’s arms. Nino opened his eyes and turned to see his boyfriend.

“Sho-kun? Daijoubu? I didn’t break any of your bones did I?”

Sho chuckled. “Nah, you’re too light to break any of my bones. And anyway, as long as Nino’s fine, nothing else matters.”

“Baka. Trying to be some sort of hero. It’s not good if either one of us gets injured.”

“Well, we’re both fine, so you shouldn’t worry.” Sho said as he tightened his hug around Nino. “Next time be careful k?”

Nino nodded, enjoying the feeling of Sho’s arms around him, before turning around. “Sho, are you trying to take advantage of me?”

“Can you be taken advantage of?”

“No.”

“That’s what I thought.”

Behind them someone coughed. The two looked to see Kame standing there, grinning.

“You know, it doesn’t bother me if you two would like to continue with whatever you’re doing, but unfortunately, Taisuke’s nearby, and you wouldn’t want to give him a heart attack, would you?”

Immediately, the two pulled apart and got up to brush themselves. If Taisuke had seen the two of them, he would surely have freaked out since they were sure the idea of Sho dating Nino never crossed his mind.

“Kame, why didn’t you wait for me?”

“Shh!” The student librarian hushed at Taisuke as he walked sheepishly towards his classmate, nodding in apology.

When he reached where Kame was standing, his eyes widened. “Sho-” Taisuke started, before lowering his volume this time. “Sho-senpai, you’re here.” He turned and noticed Nino. “Nino, you’re here too. What are you two doing here?”

“Uh, I’m on library duty.”

“I came here to borrow a book.”

“Duh, why else would people come to a library for, Taisuke?” Kame said, helping the pair cover up in case Taisuke got suspicious. It wasn’t as if those two weren’t horribly obvious during basketball practice though, even if it may only be because Kame was quick to notice such things. Or maybe Taisuke was just horribly slow at noticing anything.

“What are you doing here then, Taisuke?” Nino asked, deciding to change the subject. “You don’t strike me as the type who likes to read.”

“Oi that’s mean.” Taisuke retorted. “Anyway, Kame and I are here to do some research for our project.”

“You’re doing a project with Taisuke? Not Ryo-chan?” Nino raised his eyebrow.

“Is there a problem with that?” Kame asked.

“It is when you bring me into your cold war with Ryo-chan.” Taisuke frowned.

“Well I could have chosen to partner Toma instead and let you do the project with Ryo-chan….”

“Er… no thanks.”

“Hey you guys over there, if you wanna talk, can you please do so outside of the library?” The four turned to see the school librarian glaring at them. “And Ninomiya-kun, you’re not off-duty until another 10 minutes y’know.”

“Ah, sumimasen.” The four students apologised simultaneously as Kame and Taisuke moved off to start their research work, while Sho hovered elsewhere, waiting for the librarian to leave before moving towards Nino again.

“Nino!” Sho whispered as loudly as he could to get Nino’s attention again.

“What are you still do-” Before Nino could finish his sentence, Sho had pulled him close and gave him a quick kiss right smack on the lips. “Why did you do that for?”

“Because I didn’t get to do so earlier.” Sho grinned. “I’ll be waiting for you outside. Miss me.”

“You’re starting to sound like Pi.” Nino rolled his eyes, but half smiling. “I’m still on duty, so shoo.”

“Love ya.”

“Go already!”

“Kame-chan!” Kame paused in his warm-ups and looked up to see Yamapi jogging towards him, before pulling him towards one corner of the sports gym. “I’ve got something to tell you.” Yamapi began, lowering his volume to a conspiratory whisper.

“What is it?”

“You know I have friends at Hyouyama right?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I can find out things about Akanishi through some of those girls.” Yamapi snapped his fingers. “So that way you’ll know what Akanishi likes, what he hates, where he goes to after school, ecetera, ecetera.”

Kame raised an eyebrow. “Why would your friends tell you things about Jin? Won’t it look suspicious? It makes no sense to them why you would want to know all that about him.”

“Ah, you know girls these days, always getting excited over just seeing two boys walk really close to each other. The idea that I’m asking about Akanishi because I might possibly be interested in him, is enough to make them go crazy and spill out all the juicy details.” Yamapi explained with a grin, then continued upon seeing Kame’s sceptical face. “Hey, they even get to go out on a date with me so that should be enough to bribe them into saying something.”

Kame shook his head in amusement. “Don’t know if you’re gonna succeed with that but at least going out on dates will keep you occupied so that you don’t have to whine about Nino abandoning you for Sho-kun.”

“I do not whine.” Yamapi pouted.

“Yes you do.”

“Well, even if I do, I’m sure I don’t whine as much as you do.” Yamapi stuck his tongue out. “Although to be honest, your whining is really cute. You should do that more often, especially around Akanishi.”

“Don’t be silly.”

“Oi you two over there in the corner of the gym!” Nino interrupted. “Why are you there whispering away like you have some secret mission or something?”

“Nino! Finally! You’re paying attention to me!” Yamapi started barrelling towards his best friend, who tried to avoid but to no avail. The two tumbled onto the floor, Yamapi continuing to hug Nino despite the latter’s protest.

“Baka Pi! What have you been eating?! You’re so fat and heavy! I’m going to be flattened at this rate.”

“Don’t talk nonsense, Nino. I always do this to you and you still haven’t been flattened.” Yamapi said as he pulled himself off Nino, helping Nino up. “And anyway, I thought you didn’t love me anymore since you never pay any attention to me nowadays. It’s always Sh-”

Before Yamapi could finish his sentence, Nino had covered his mouth to stop Yamapi from giving away Nino and Sho’s relationship.

“Nino, you’re gonna suffocate Yamapi soon.” Kame laughed.

“Wouldn’t that be good?” Nino asked innocently. There was a muffled reply from Yamapi, who was flailing his arms as if he was drowning. Nino rolled his eyes as he let Yamapi go, even though he knew that if the taller boy really wanted to get out of his hold, it was no problem at all.

“Nino, I can’t die yet. I have to matchmake Kame with Akanishi first.”

“Oh my, Kame, I feel for you.” Nino started to pat Kame comfortingly. “You better be prepared for failure, cos this guy will only make things worse.”

“What do you mean by that?” Yamapi sulked. “My very first matchmaking mission was a success! Just look at yourself.”

“When did you ever play a part in getting us together?” Nino made a face.

“If it wasn’t for me dragging Kame away on a pretence of a date, so that you and your beloved could be alone, I doubt you two would get together so quickly.”

“Oh, you mean they got together only then?” Kame turned to Yamapi.

“Hai. If I wasn’t there to give them a push in the right direction, they would have taken a year, or more, to get together.”

“Fine, fine, you’re such a great matchmaker. Kame should be so honoured to have you help him.”

“Ah, Nino, do I sense jealousy? Are you jealous because this would mean I would be spending more time with Kame instead of you?”

“Who the heck will be jealous?” Nino rolled his eyes, turning away to look for Sho. “I’m gonna ignore you. Sho-kun! Let’s play one-on-one!”

“Hmph, there he goes again.” Yamapi pouted, before proceeding to glomp Kame and announcing loudly. “It’s okay! Who needs Nino when I have Kame-chan! Lalalalala.”

    *is still jumping around*
Aw~ I’m so happy u finally posted it up! *hearts*
And I’m also happy that Jin didn’t get to appear more than for this one scene *gets killed by Akame-fans* XD Haha, no seriously, he’d just make things even more complicated right now, while Kame and Ryo needed to figure their issues out first ^.~
Kame constantly sulking just makes me wanna pat him all the time – So cute *laughs* It’s a pity Yamapi never got to stay close to him for long, but well, shouldn’t have Ryo get jealous, too, right now, ne? *pats Ryo as well for having to bear with a jealous!Kame* *rofl*
Speaking of Ryo, for some reason the ‘Yamapi’s willing slave’ term had me crack up so badly. Wonder if he’d really go as far as become a willing slave for Pi like Kame suspects XD
    And I loved this part:
“But I like Kame too.” Yamapi stated easily.

“Yamapi, you’re making this whole thing more complicated. Don’t make the shape even weirder!”

    “It’s still a square.”

    “Oh yeah, you’re right.”
    ————————————–
    Yay for Taisuke’s logic! XDDD
But to keep it a square I’m sure Jin will have to show up again soon. Really curious how this next encounter is going to be~
So, don’t forget (haha, as if my constant bugging would let u forget about it XD) to post the next chapter up on Kame’s bday, ne? ^_______________________^

    @Chapter 1
See! It’s posted! It’s posted even if Idol-chan said it wasn’t going to be~! x3 And it’s 6 pages of a lovely, printed ficcy~ It’s even more lovely than the…oh my, I forgot mom bought be doughnuts! *looks at the clock* It’s past 11 pm ;___;~ Too late for sweets…

I absolutely loved the “keitai strap” quarrel~ I’m obessed with matching straps and it was so cute~ Ryo-chan is really mean to Kame sometimes ^_^; Such a baka. But on the other hand it was incredibly sweet how when he asked Jin to go on a date with Kame, but lied to Kame later~ *glomps both of them* Just why was Jin simply sitting there and not even noticing them? Should I feel sorry for him, because he was tired or scold him for ignoring others? *blinks*

I laughed at Pi’s conspiracy… So childish. So was the conversation with Taisuke…. How come you guys make them so…how to put it not to offend the boys… well… stupid? XD

“See! Three! There’s one more I don’t know about!”
“Eh, Kame, I was talking about you.” – my favorite part xD So clueless it hurts~!

Sho-kun’s “time-out” also fitted there perfectly. Is his mind ever off the court? Of course, if Nino isn’t around?

Eh, Nino was lucky to get that surprise bday party. It had to be a surprise if it was a week earlier, nee. Such a pity it usually happenes in fanfiction and movies only. I’d like one, too. But before I started complaining at my friends not being creative enough, I dropped my jaw at Taisuke’s announcement. That boy is scary ^_^; *glomps Taisuke* Or maybe Yamapi the Drama Queen is the scary one..?

“childhood sweethearts” = OMG XDDD I envy Sho for not being jealous and killing Pi XD He’s so calm *admires Sho*

    Ryo-chan’s talk at the end…SWEET ;___;

So. Do I really have to say it was – - – perfect? *fangirls* It’s good to know that I don’t =^____^=

Oh, but the way, I’ll just use the opportunity and compliment the new layout! ^_^ It’s extremely loveable. It’s just a pity that it’s black… Black is no good, too dark for me… But it’s cute anyway **^__^** Yay~! *glomps the layout*

Just stab be for being so irrationally cheerful today *hides*

    *glomps the authors*

yay! I really liked this. and yup, it was really sweet of Ryo to ask Jin out for Kame even though he likes him. poor Ryo, and I loved sulking and jealous Kame! ^_^ I also agree with SumeragiAeka about the layout. Love the pictures used, and looking forward to reading the next chapter!
