Chapter Two
“Hey Yamapi, you’re alone today?” Ryo asked as Yamapi approached their table.
Yamapi settled his tray of food next to Kame, who was seated opposite Ryo, looking a little peeved. “Nino says he’s got cleaning duty.”
“YAMAPI! Where’s Ninomiya-kun? How come you’re alone today?” HaseJun asked as the rest of the gang joined the table. Yamapi glared at HaseJun, who cowered a little. “Did I say something wrong?”
“Nino’s got cleaning duty.” Kame replied on behalf of Yamapi.
“Sou desu ka.”
Yamapi suddenly rested his head on Kame’s shoulder. “Kame…”
“Nani?”
“I’m depressed.”
“Nande?”
“…”
“Oookay.”
“Hey, don’t lie your head on Kame’s shoulder.” Taisuke said. “Ryo-chan might get mad at you.”
“Yamapi’s depressed. He needs a shoulder to lie on.” Ryo said. “It’s unfortunate that I’m not sitting next to Yamapi otherwise I’ll let him rest on my shoulder instead.”
Kame rolled his eyes at Ryo, while Yamapi momentarily lifted his head off Kame’s shoulder. “But Ryo-chan, you’re too short for me. It’ll be kinda uncomfortable lying on your shoulder. At least Kame’s almost the same height as I am so it won’t be that uncomfortable ne.” Yamapi laid his head back on Kame’s shoulder.
Taisuke pointed at Ryo and laughed, almost spitting out his food as he did so, and illiciting a glare from Ryo. Taisuke then quickly gulped down his drink, to make sure he didn’t choke as well as to take the chance to turn away from Ryo’s intense glare and pretend he didn’t know anything. Kame couldn’t help but smile in amusement.
“I’m only 1 cm shorter.” Ryo protested, but was ignored.
“Kame…” Yamapi said again.
“Nani?”
“Your name’s Kazuya right?”
“Hai.”
“The kanji characters of your name are similar to Nino’s ‘Kazunari’ ne… isn’t that some sort of sign?”
“Nani? What sign?”
“That you should be my new best friend! Ne?”
“What kind of logic is that?” Ryo retorted.
“Erm… mine?”
“Kame.” Ryo turned to his other half. “Are you free this weekend? Wanna hang out at my place?”
“Hey, that’s a very sudden change in topic!” Yamapi interjected. “And I was talking to Kame first.”
Ryo ignored Yamapi, continuing to ask Kame. “So?”
Kame looked back and forth between Yamapi and Ryo, one appearing so depressed and yet so adorable at the same time, the other looking so jealous that it was kinda cute too. Kame shrugged. “Yah, I don’t mind.”
“To which question are you replying to?”
“Both.”
“Yatta!” Yamapi smiled, before digging into his food, while Ryo bit his lip, wondering if he should protest. Kame grinned. Those two were just so darn adorable sometimes it was hard for him to say no.
* * * * *
Ryo was awaken by the sudden shrill of his cell phone. I really need to change the ring tone. “Moshi.”
“Oi, what’s your house address? I just realised this morning that you gave me directions to your house but didn’t give me the exact house number.”
Ryo rubbed his eyes, dragging his feet as he walked out of his room. “Eh? Oh, I don’t know myself. 26 maybe? That was my old house number, but my parents could have picked this house because of that, you never know. But it should be twenty-something.”
“Are? There are 10 houses with twenty-something and I’m not going to go knock on each house. Why don’t you go out and check what’s the number?”
Ryo opened the door and stepped out. “Ah, I might as well just stand outside, so that you can see me. See ya.” Closing the flap, he gave a stretch and yawned aloud. It wasn’t long before Kame spotted him and walked to his gate.
“Hm, it is 26.” Kame remarked and pushed past Ryo, stepping into the latter’s house. He stopped short when he approached the area between the living room and the kitchen, surprised by the presence of another who simply ignored them and sat there watching television. Ryo didn’t even seem to notice and sauntered to the refrigerator, grabbing a carton of milk and taking a big gulp. Kame turned to Ryo. “Eto… dare?”
“Huh?” Ryo looked back at Kame questioningly, before realising that the television was switched on. Not bothering to pay attention to who was lounging in the living room, he simply mumbled his reply. “Eh, maybe it’s my dad?”
“Your dad? … Does he look very young?”
“There are people who have told him that. My mum too. Pretty much why they produced such a great kid like me.”
Kame rolled his eyes. He was quite sure it wasn’t Ryo’s dad, but didn’t feel that it was polite to just ask the person directly either, especially since it wasn’t his house. He walked towards the person cautiously anyway. He could tell that the other person was around their age. Maybe Ryo’s cousin?
“Don’t you think that kid is really kawaii?” The other boy commented to Kame, pointing out one of the kids that was on the television programme. “Just like you.”
“Eh?” To say that Kame was surprise was probably an understatement. After all, he was more used to someone telling him he was ugly.
“Are?!” Ryo’s sudden outburst interrupted Kame’s thoughts, while the other just continued watching his programme. “Uchi? What are you doing here? When did you get here? Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“Uchi desu. Visiting. This morning. Ryo-chan was still asleep.” Uchi replied, his eyes never leaving the television screen. “Who’s that cute friend of yours?”
“Cute? Where?” Ryo asked, feigning ignorance. Kame rolled his eyes. “Oh, you mean this ugly guy here? He’s Kame.”
“Ah. Sou ka.”
“Sorry but, who is this Uchi guy? Your cousin?” Kame whispered, annoyed that he seemed like the only one who didn’t know what was going on.
“Uchi? He’s my OTL.”
“OTL? What’s that?”
“One True Love.”
Kame was silent for a while. Ryo was attached? He never knew that, and Ryo never ever mentioned it before. But before he could react, Ryo was pushing him towards the exit. “Ano, Kame, as much as I love you, I can’t hang out with you today.”
“Hey! I came all the way here and now you’re chasing me away? I’ve only arrived just a few minutes ago.” Kame grumbled.
“Ryo-chan?” Uchi called out. “Chotto onaka ga suita.”
“Ah, will make you something. Chotto matte.” Ryo replied, before turning back to Kame. “Gomen na, but…” He shut the door on Kame.
“Are you sure it’s ok? Isn’t he your other half? If your other half leaves you, then won’t you be all alone without any friends?” Uchi asked as he draped an arm around Ryo.
“It’s ok. As long as Uchi is here, that’s enough.” Ryo replied melodramatically. “Anyway, he’s my other half. He won’t leave me.”
“Smug aren’t we?”
* * * * *
“One true love… is that just a nickname or…” Kame mumbled to himself as he walked away from Ryo’s house. “I mean, after all he calls me ‘Other Half’ and I’m only his best friend. So maybe OTL represents his best friend in Osaka. Make that his best friend ever… right?”
“But if that’s the case, what’s wrong with all three of us hanging out together? Why kick me out of the house like I’m some lamp post that needs to be gotten rid of? To think that he calls me his ‘other half’ and tells me that without me he’ll be ‘incomplete’. Pfft. Your OTL is more important than your Other Half?”
Kame stopped in his tracks. “Wait, why am I thinking about such things? Why am I getting annoyed for? Who Ryo likes is his own business. Although it still wasn’t nice of him to make me go all they way to his house in the morning then kick me out after that. What kinda attitude is that? Does he take me for granted?”
Not knowing what he should do know, Kame sat at the bus-stop, swinging his legs. He could go back home, but then there was nothing to do. Not even homework since he had already finished all his assignments and done his reading. He could just take a bus down to the shopping district since it was only a 10 minute bus ride.
Opting for the latter, he sat on the bus wondering if he should call someone out to hang out with. Shopping alone wasn’t exactly too fun. And so what if Ryo abandoned him? He had many friends to spend time with. Who cares about Ryo? I can call Nino, or Yamapi, or Toma, Taisuke- okay, I don’t think I’ll start with him. Hm, lemme call Nino first.
At first, the phone was engaged. He redialled Nino’s number as he got off the bus, and just as he was waiting for the call to be picked up, he spotted Nino and Sho across the street. The call connected right then.
“Moshi?”
“Nino! Hey can I hang out with you guys? Ryo cancelled at the last minute-”
Nino interrupted. “Eh, Kame? I’m not with Pi right now.”
Kame was about to say that by ‘you guys’ he meant Sho, but stopped short when he heard Nino continue. “Sorry, but I have something on today with my parents, and we’re going to leave our house soon. I’ll be with them the whole day. Why don’t you call Pi directly and ask him? He’ll be more than happy to hang out.”
Kame furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he took in the contradicting statements. In front of him, across the street, was Nino with Sho after all. And Nino was certainly not at home with his parents right now like he said over the phone. Kame smiled to himself. Oh, so could it be… “No problem. I’ll call Yamapi then.”
“Sorry about that Kame.”
“It’s okay. Anyway, ja, hope you have fun with Sho-kun.”
“K, bye.”
Nino disconnected the call. Then paused. What did Kame just say? Nino’s jaw dropped right then, shocked by Kame’s words. He looked around frantically much to Sho’s confusion. Then he spotted Kame standing across the street, waving at them with a mischievious grin on his face. Nino smacked his forehead.
“Oh…” Sho began. “Kame saw us.”
“Hi Nino! Hi Sho-kun!” Kame greeted as he approached the two of them. “Out on a date?”
Knowing that there was no way to deny it, Sho and Nino nodded sheepishly.
“Oh c’mon, why be so secretive about it? It’s not like you guys aren’t dubious in school already.”
“We’re dubious?”
“Yah. Well to me anyway.” Kame shrugged. “Don’t worry. If you want to keep this a secret for whatever reason, my lips are sealed.”
“Thanks.” Sho smiled. “So what are you doing?”
“Me? Nothing really. Got kicked out of stupid Ryo’s house.”
“Eh? Ryo-chan kicked you out? Your Ryo-chan?” Nino’s eyes widened in surprise.
“He’s not mine.” Kame rolled his eyes. “His friend from Osaka, Uchi-kun, came to visit him. Think they might be a couple or something.”
“Considering that he kicked you out, yeah I think so too.” Nino stated and received a smack on the head from Sho. “Ow! Why did you do that for?”
“In that case, Kame, wanna hang out with us today?”
“Nah, I don’t want to be a lamp post twice.” Kame shook his head.
“Why don’t you call Pi like I suggested? Although he probably just woke up or something…”
“At this time?” Kame smiled in amusement. “Yah I guess I’ll give him a call. Don’t wanna disturb you two any further. Though really, Nino, you’re such a lousy liar.”
“Oi.” Nino glared at Kame. “You could only tell I was lying because you saw us.”
Kame laughed. “True. See you guys another time then. Ja.”
He watched as the couple left for their destination, a little envious. Sighing, he pulled out his cellphone again, and picked out the next number. After several rings, the call finally connected.
“Moshi baby?”
“Hey Yamapi, it’s Kame here.”
“Ah, Kame-chan. Nani?”
“Did you just wake up?”
“About ten minutes ago. Nande?”
“Free today? Wanna hang out? I’m at Hanamachidori right now.”
“Okay! But er, you’ll have to wait for me. Cos I have to, y’know, get washed up and everything since I’m still kinda half asleep.”
“Hai, hai. Go make yourself pretty before you meet me.”
“Of course! If I’m going out on a date with Kame, I must look extra pretty ne.” Yamapi said in a sing-song voice. “Ja then, meet you later in about half an hour to forty-five minutes k? See you mi amigo!”
Kame chuckled. “See ya!”
* * * * *
It had been almost an hour and yet Yamapi was nowhere in sight. Granted that Kame had called Yamapi at the last minute, and that the latter didn’t exactly stay nearby, but surely it didn’t take that long to travel here. Kame plopped himself on one of the free benches that was vacated by a departing couple, getting bored. It was all stupid Ryo’s fault, asking him to go over to his house and then kicking him out because his ‘One True Love’ was there. Kame started sulking.
“Kamenashi-kun?”
Kame looked up at the voice, and almost fell off his seat when he saw who it was. “Jin!”
“Oh good, I thought I might have made a mistake. So you live around here?” Jin smiled brightly as he sat down next to Kame.
“Sorta.” Kame replied, a little taken aback by Jin’s sudden friendliness, considering that the last time they met, Jin seemed peeved at him and Ryo. He tried to remain calm. “What a coincidence huh, meeting you here.”
“Yeah! I’m meeting my friends for a movie. But they’re late. So much for them complaining that I always keep them waiting. It’s not my fault that I’m always on time but appear late just because they are usually so early. Yet today they’re the ones who are late. Geez.”
Kame watched as Jin continued ranting about his friends’ tardiness, amused, when Jin suddenly turned to him. “Hey, do you want to join us?”
“Eh?” Kame’s heart skipped a beat as he was almost about to accept the invitation when he remembered that he was supposed to be waiting for Yamapi. “Erm, thanks for the invitation, but I’m waiting for someone so…”
“Oh yeah, of course you’re waiting for someone.” Jin said in sudden realisation. “Are you waiting for your girlfriend?”
“Eh? No. Just a friend.”
“You mean the one who came to talk to me the other day? Though I don’t quite remember what he said to me…”
“Er, a different friend.” Kame quickly replied, hoping that Jin wouldn’t remember Ryo — that flirt — asking him out on a date. Just then, Jin’s cellphone rang.
“Ah, that stupid friend of mine told me to meet at the wrong place.” Jin grumbled as he ended the call. “Guess I better get going. See you around!” Jin waved behind him as he walked off, and Kame couldn’t help but find Jin terribly cute.
About ten minutes later, Yamapi finally arrived, appearing eager to tell him something.
“Kame, Kame! Guess who I saw earlier? Akanishi!” Yamapi said enthusiastically, before grabbing Kame’s hands and pulling him towards where he had come from. “Quick, let’s go follow him and pretend to bump into him so that you can talk to him again.”
“Eh, but Yamapi, I already met him earlier.”
Yamapi stopped in his tracks. “You did?”
“Yeah. And damn, you were taking so long to come that I was starting to think that you stood me up. I was almost gonna accept Jin’s invitation to join him and his friends for a movie.” Kame joked.
“Why didn’t you just go?” Yamapi started. “I would have understood if I came and couldn’t find you because you left with Akanishi. Now you’re making me feel guilty.”
“Nah, I don’t think it’s right for me to hang out with Jin and his friends anyway, since I don’t really know who those people are, and I’m not exactly friends with Jin either.” Kame patted Yamapi’s head. “Plus, I would rather hang out with you.”
“Awwwww.” Yamapi grinned. “But you know what? If he actually asked you to join him, that means he’s interested.”
Kame laughed. “How did you come to such a conclusion?”
“Hey, if he didn’t like you at all why would he ask you to join him for a movie? It would be as ridiculous as Nino asking Aiba-san out for a date.” Yamapi stated easily. “Well nevermind. If he asked you out once, he’ll ask again. You just have to give him the opportunity to do so.”
“Okay…” Kame chuckled. “Now since I’ve already wasted one opportunity because of you, does that mean I get a treat from you?”
“Treat? No problem!” Yamapi linked arms with Kame. “In fact, this will be our first date! Since the last time we tried to go out on one, Ryo came to drag you off. Pfft. But today, I’ll be your kind, gentle and absolutely wonderful boyfriend who will do whatever you say.”
“Hontou? Hm, then I want to eat ramen, go shopping, catch a movie, take purikura, have dinner, then take a walk on the beach, and we’ll even stay there overnight so that we can watch the sun rise the next morning…”
“No problem. Though we better get going. Which ramen place do you wanna go to?”
“We’re really gonna do all that?”
“Yep.”
“Hm, maybe I should really make you my boyfriend.” Kame said with a mock serious tone.
“I’m fine with that but when my fans find out, it’ll cause a lot of broken hearts.” Yamapi stated, before adding. “By the way, if we stay overnight at the beach, does that mean we get to have sex on the beach?”
“OI!”

@Chapter 1
*is still jumping around*
Aw~ I’m so happy u finally posted it up! *hearts*
And I’m also happy that Jin didn’t get to appear more than for this one scene *gets killed by Akame-fans* XD Haha, no seriously, he’d just make things even more complicated right now, while Kame and Ryo needed to figure their issues out first ^.~
Kame constantly sulking just makes me wanna pat him all the time – So cute *laughs* It’s a pity Yamapi never got to stay close to him for long, but well, shouldn’t have Ryo get jealous, too, right now, ne? *pats Ryo as well for having to bear with a jealous!Kame* *rofl*
Speaking of Ryo, for some reason the ‘Yamapi’s willing slave’ term had me crack up so badly. Wonder if he’d really go as far as become a willing slave for Pi like Kame suspects XD
And I loved this part:
“But I like Kame too.” Yamapi stated easily.
“Yamapi, you’re making this whole thing more complicated. Don’t make the shape even weirder!”
“It’s still a square.”
“Oh yeah, you’re right.”
————————————–
Yay for Taisuke’s logic! XDDD
But to keep it a square I’m sure Jin will have to show up again soon. Really curious how this next encounter is going to be~
So, don’t forget (haha, as if my constant bugging would let u forget about it XD) to post the next chapter up on Kame’s bday, ne? ^_______________________^
@Chapter 1
See! It’s posted! It’s posted even if Idol-chan said it wasn’t going to be~! x3 And it’s 6 pages of a lovely, printed ficcy~ It’s even more lovely than the…oh my, I forgot mom bought be doughnuts! *looks at the clock* It’s past 11 pm ;___;~ Too late for sweets…
I absolutely loved the “keitai strap” quarrel~ I’m obessed with matching straps and it was so cute~ Ryo-chan is really mean to Kame sometimes ^_^; Such a baka. But on the other hand it was incredibly sweet how when he asked Jin to go on a date with Kame, but lied to Kame later~ *glomps both of them* Just why was Jin simply sitting there and not even noticing them? Should I feel sorry for him, because he was tired or scold him for ignoring others? *blinks*
I laughed at Pi’s conspiracy… So childish. So was the conversation with Taisuke…. How come you guys make them so…how to put it not to offend the boys… well… stupid? XD
“See! Three! There’s one more I don’t know about!”
“Eh, Kame, I was talking about you.” – my favorite part xD So clueless it hurts~!
Sho-kun’s “time-out” also fitted there perfectly. Is his mind ever off the court? Of course, if Nino isn’t around?
Eh, Nino was lucky to get that surprise bday party. It had to be a surprise if it was a week earlier, nee. Such a pity it usually happenes in fanfiction and movies only. I’d like one, too. But before I started complaining at my friends not being creative enough, I dropped my jaw at Taisuke’s announcement. That boy is scary ^_^; *glomps Taisuke* Or maybe Yamapi the Drama Queen is the scary one..?
“childhood sweethearts” = OMG XDDD I envy Sho for not being jealous and killing Pi XD He’s so calm *admires Sho*
Ryo-chan’s talk at the end…SWEET ;___;
So. Do I really have to say it was – - – perfect? *fangirls* It’s good to know that I don’t =^____^=
Oh, but the way, I’ll just use the opportunity and compliment the new layout! ^_^ It’s extremely loveable. It’s just a pity that it’s black… Black is no good, too dark for me… But it’s cute anyway **^__^** Yay~! *glomps the layout*
Just stab be for being so irrationally cheerful today *hides*
*glomps the authors*
@Chapter 1
yay! I really liked this. and yup, it was really sweet of Ryo to ask Jin out for Kame even though he likes him. poor Ryo, and I loved sulking and jealous Kame! ^_^ I also agree with SumeragiAeka about the layout. Love the pictures used, and looking forward to reading the next chapter!
@Chapter 1
ohhhhhhh…. this is great! i read “double” not too long ago and really enjoyed it. i’m so glad you’re now writing (another, lol) fic with a prominent kame… and potentionally one of my favorite pairings, too.
