DOUBLE FAULT

Chapter Thirteen

Vivid sunlight that crept into the room through the gap between the curtains shone upon Kame’s face, waking him up before the alarm even rang. Kame moved to stretch his arms, when he felt something next to him.

Pi… Kame smiled. It was funny that in the past two days when Jin slept over, Yamapi would either insist on letting Kame take the bed while he take the floor, or try to kick the Hyouyama player out of the room, until he had no choice but to share the bed with Kame in the end on both occasions. Now that Jin wasn’t around, they finally had the beds to themselves and there was no need to share, yet Kame woke up to find that Yamapi had climbed into his bed anyway. Not that Kame was going to complain.

Yamapi’s arm moved to pull Kame closer to him, surprising Kame a little, but he didn’t move away. He didn’t want to get out of bed, wishing that they could stay like that forever. Kame snuggled closer, his own arms circling around Yamapi’s waist.

“Kazuya…”

“Hm?” Kame looked up at the sleeping face of Yamapi’s. With the exception when Yamapi called him ‘Kazu-chan’ to put up a show for Jin, Yamapi never did call him by his name, and no one else besides his family called him ‘Kazuya’ either.

“Omae no koto ga suki.”

The words were soft, almost inaudible, but Kame could still make them out. Kame half-smiled. He knew Yamapi liked to say such things to Nino, and knowing that Yamapi had come to see him as a good friend as well, and that they were close enough for Yamapi to say such words — though in his sleep — Kame felt happy. But at the same time, a small part of him wished for more.

“I like Pi too.” Kame replied softly. He wondered if he had fallen in love with his friend. How he yearned for Yamapi’s attention every second, how he got easily jealous when Yamapi appeared to care more about Nino than himself, how happy and relieved he felt when Yamapi told him he wasn’t angry with him, how simple little things that Yamapi did to him could make his heart beat so fast… It was as if his mood could be easily determined by Yamapi’s actions. Kame knew he wasn’t supposed to feel that way if they were only friends.

Kame looked at Yamapi again, and hugged the latter closer. It was the last time he could do this, and he wanted to be selfish for once. The alarm clock rang just then, startling Kame at first. He reluctantly pulled himself away from Yamapi and grabbed the alarm clock off the table and was about to turn it off, but changed his mind. Instead he took the alarm clock and put it right next to Yamapi’s ear, causing the latter to jump at the sudden increase in volume. But Yamapi refused to wake up, and with his eyes closed, tried to reach out for the alarm clock. Kame quickly pulled back, and waited until Yamapi had buried himself into the pillow before putting the alarm clock near the latter again. Once more, Yamapi reached out for it, but failed to take the alarm clock away from Kame. When Kame moved the alarm clock near Yamapi for the third time, the latter acted quicker this time and grabbed it from Kame’s hand, turning it off grumpily.

Kame laughed. It had looked like Yamapi was a cat playing with a catnip.

“What are you laughing at?” Yamapi sulked, still sleepy. “Did you have to wake me up by torturing me?”

“Pi’s so cute ne.” Kame chuckled. “And Pi even talks in his sleep too.”

Yamapi looked at Kame worriedly. “What did I say?”

Kame shrugged, refusing to answer, a grin plastered on his face as he looked at Yamapi knowingly.

“Tell me.” Yamapi sat up and poked Kame in the cheek. “Tell me.”

“Not telling.”

Yamapi eyed Kame, and then without warning, started tickling the sides of the smaller boy. Kame gasped and tried his best to avoid Yamapi’s attacks, but there was no way to run; he was stuck between Yamapi and the wall. He tried to hide underneath the blanket, but Yamapi managed to get on top of him before he could pull the blanket over himself, and continued tickling his sides.

“Stop… Please stop…” Kame pleaded in between laughter. He hadn’t really expected Yamapi to let him off, but the tickling had stopped. Kame looked up at Yamapi, whose eyes appeared to be studying him. “…Pi?” Kame broke the silence, but the other boy didn’t reply. Instead, Kame felt fingers running through his hair, softly, lightly. Then a hand cupped his face, and Kame felt himself leaning into it, as lips closed over his own.

As sudden as it had begun, the kiss was broken. Yamapi had expected Kame to push him off right from the start, but the latter didn’t. So when Kame kissed him back, he hesitated even more, and pulled away.

“Do you let anybody just kiss you like that?” Yamapi asked. Thoughts of Kame easily giving in to Ryo, or Jin or anybody else for that matter made Yamapi worry about how lightly Kame might be taking the kiss.

“Wha- What? No!” Kame said quickly, slightly offended and embarrassed at the same time. “Of course I don’t just let anyone kiss me. I never even kissed anyone before.”

“This is your first kiss?” Yamapi blinked. Kame nodded, blushing. Yamapi grew in confidence at the revelation. He grinned. “Does that mean you like me? A lot? Enough to let me kiss you and to kiss me back?”

As if Kame wasn’t already flushed from embarrassment, his cheeks turned even redder upon hearing Yamapi’s question, which sounded almost rhetorical. Instead of replying, Kame decided to throw the question back at the other person. “Then how about you? What did you mean when you said that you like me?”

Yamapi froze slightly, a little confused. He didn’t quite remember confessing to Kame, except for the slip he made the other day. Kame seemed to have noticed his confusion, as he continued.

“Earlier, when you were sleeping, you said ‘Kazuya, omae no koto ga suki’. What did you mean by that?”

Oh… Yamapi thought. He did confessed to Kame without realising. And this time, there was no way he could cover up his slip, unlike the last time. But then again, he didn’t need to cover up now. Kame didn’t say ‘no’ to his question earlier, when Yamapi had asked if the kiss meant Kame liked him. And if Kame wanted to know what Yamapi had meant when he had said that in his sleep, wouldn’t it mean that Kame wanted to know if Yamapi liked him back? Yamapi smiled as he made the conclusions. He suddenly felt like he was on cloud nine.

“Of course I meant this.” Yamapi leaned in to kiss Kame once more, this time more decisively, less cautious. He nibbled at Kame’s lips slowly, tasting every bit of them, and using his tongue to teased them open. The moment Kame’s lips parted, he slipped his tongue in, greedily devouring Kame’s mouth. Kame slipped his own tongue into Yamapi’s mouth, tangling with the other’s, as his hands ran over Yamapi’s chest. He moaned when Yamapi did something funny with his tongue, making his mind go blank for a second. Hearing Kame’s moan only incited Yamapi to deepen the kiss even further, repeating his earlier manoeuvre and sucking Kame’s tongue hungrily, as one hand tugged at the waistband of Kame’s sweatpants.

“Chotto!” Instinctively, Kame pushed Yamapi away and jumped out of bed, his face still flushed from the kiss. “Uh, uh, we have to get ready. We’re leaving right after breakfast.”

Yamapi watched in amusement as Kame hurried out of the room, although he couldn’t help feeling a little frustrated at the sudden interruption in their make out session. He was usually not a morning person, but if his mornings were always like that (or more), then they weren’t really so bad after all.

* * * * *

Nino knew that something must have happened when he saw Yamapi that morning. His best friend was too scarily genki, even more so than on his usual high tension days. Even Sho commented that Yamapi seemed extremely happy that morning. Nino was starting to get worried that Yamapi might be running a fever or something — maybe he caught the bug from Kame? — when he noticed how Yamapi scooted close to Kame the moment they sat down at their team’s table. Too close. There was obviously something going on between them. Nino wondered if Kame was even able to eat that way, with someone practically stuck next to him.

“Pi, why are you sitting so close?” Kame whispered. He knew Yamapi was pretty affectionate with people, but this was attracting attention from all the other tables.

Yamapi didn’t answer his question. Instead, he grinned, and pointed at one of the egg rolls on Kame’s plate. “Kazuya, I want to eat that. Can I? Please? When I wanted to get some egg rolls the tray was already empty.”

“Sure, feel free to take it.”

“Can Kazuya feed me?”

Kame felt his face turn pink. This time, everyone else at the table continued with what they were doing, seemingly used to what was happening. Kame turned to look at Yamapi, who was waiting expectantly. He sighed, as he took one of the egg rolls, and put it into Yamapi’s mouth.

“Umai!” Yamapi remarked and smiled brightly at Kame, before turning back to the food on his own plate.

Kame wasn’t sure how he managed to go through the rest of breakfast. After exchanging phone numbers with Jin — although Yamapi seemed reluctant to let Kame do so — they both grabbed their bags and made their way onto the bus, Yamapi’s hand holding Kame’s the whole time, never letting go. It was a sweet gesture, but Kame couldn’t help feeling conscious of his surroundings.

After they had settled in their seats, Kame felt Yamapi tighten his hold as the latter pulled him closer. “Is something wrong?”

“Hm? No. Nothing.”

“Sure?”

Kame hesitated, before nodding. “Yeah, it’s nothing. Really.”

Yamapi looked at Kame a little worriedly, unsure if he should just drop the subject or question further. He decided on letting it be, since Kame appeared to be unwilling to talk about whatever that was bugging him. Yamapi sighed, then pulled Kame towards himself and was about to kiss the other when a face popped up next to them.

“Ahem, excuse me.” Nino coughed. “You do realise you two aren’t the only people on the bus?”

Kame blushed furiously and quickly turned towards the window, while Yamapi eyed Nino, who grinned back at him.

“Ah! Seishun love!”

“Urusai, Nino. Go back to your seat.”

“Che, I’m not here to look for you either. I actually wanted to ask Kame whether he’s going to baseball this weekend?” Nino dismissed Yamapi’s complaint. “So Kame, are you?”

“Sure-”

“No, Kazuya’s not free.”

Both Kame and Nino looked at Yamapi questioningly.

“I’m not?”

“Yeah, we have a date!”

“Are? Pi, who are you to make decisions like that for Kame ne?” Taisuke, who had overhead the proceedings, interrupted, before Nino added.

“A rare occassion where I actually agree with Taisuke.”

Yamapi made a face. “What? I just wanna spend time with Kazuya.” He turned to look at Kame. “Do you wanna go for baseball?”

“Well, actually…” Kame hesitated as the other was staring at him intensely, with such puppy-dog pleading eyes, that he was wavering in his decision.

“Oi Kame, don’t get suckered in by that sap’s face.” Nino stated brutally.

“Yeah, Kame. Don’t bother about Yamapi, ne? Ryo-chan’s usually way scarier and you still manage to disagree with him anyway.”

“Oi Taisuke!” Yamapi averted his glance to the two boys and scolded, just as Kame responded.

“YesIwannagoforbaseball.” Kame said quickly in one breath, as if he thought he would change his mind if he didn’t respond quickly.

“Ha!” Nino and Taisuke were both gloating. Kame was about to apologise to Yamapi but the other boy was faster.

“Well, if Kazuya wants to go, then of course he should! I’ll just go along too! We can have our date there!” Yamapi grinned, looking all smug as if he had come to the perfect, logical solution.

* * * * *

“Ne, Pi?” A little over an hour later, the bus carrying the Waseio team pulled up at the school gate. Kame nudged the sleeping boy lightly. “Pi, we’re here. Wake up.”

“Wha… Five more minutes…” Yamapi mumbled, still laden with sleep.

“Pi, get up. We need to get off the bus.”

“Kazuya can go first if he wants.”

“I would. But erm, you’re kinda holding me so I can’t move.” Kame stated quietly, feeling his cheeks warming up once again.

Somehow during the bus ride, they had both fallen asleep again, and Kame awoke to find himself securely wrapped in the other’s arms. The other team members were already trickling off the bus, somewhat amused and accustomed to the sight. Kame felt himself turn, if it were possible, redder.

“Pi.”

“Hmmm.” A smile appeared on Yamapi’s face, as he opened one eye and peeked at his captive. “Kazuya, your face’s all red. Kawaii~!” Grinning, he started to move his face even closer to Kame.

“Hey! What are you two doing?!” Taisuke’s loud outburst right next to his ear caused Yamapi to loosen his hold slightly, allowing Kame to move away.

“It’s nothing, Taisuke.” Kame said quickly as he jumped up and started to make his way off the bus, with Taisuke following closely behind.

“Kame, what would Ryo-chan say? Ne, Kame?”

Yamapi cringed slightly at the mention of Ryo again. It was as if Ryo would forever be in the picture, and Yamapi wondered if Taisuke was just there to rub things in. After Kame and Taisuke disappeared out of the bus, Yamapi jumped up from his seat, his long strides taking him off the bus in a few seconds. By then, most of the players had already left and the parking lot was pretty empty. He jogged towards where Kame and Taisuke were as they picked up their bags.

“Okay, I’m gonna make a move first. Ja ne!” Taisuke waved goodbye as he headed in the other direction, while Kame and Yamapi made their way to the train station. Yamapi was about to reach out for Kame’s hand once more, when Kame’s cell phone rang.

“Moshi moshi. Oh, Ryo-chan.”

Yamapi’s mood darkened upon hearing the name roll off Kame’s tongue easily. He figured that it was just like Ryo to have such great timing. Yamapi had to admit that he still wasn’t sure about Kame’s feelings towards him. He knew that Kame must have liked him enough to let Yamapi kiss him, but there was still this nagging feeling. He couldn’t be sure if Kame liked him more than Ryo or not. As he watched Kame talking animatedly on the phone to Ryo, Yamapi noticed the dangling keitai strap. He remembered that Kame and Ryo used a matching keitai strap, like a symbol of the special bond they held.

At that moment, jealousy got the better of himself. The smile on Kame’s face only served to make Yamapi feel more annoyed with the ‘Ryo situation’. He wanted Kame’s smile directed at him only. He wanted Kame to smile only because of him. Not wanting to let Kame continue talking to Ryo, Yamapi leaned in and kiss Kame on the lips to try to distract the latter, but Kame only pushed him away. Yamapi scowled.

When Kame finally ended the call, Yamapi grabbed Kame’s hand and started dragging him away from the train station, towards the shops opposite instead.

“Eh? Pi? Where are we going?”

“I wanna buy something, can you come with me?”

“Oh, okay.”

Yamapi walked into a shop that sold phone accessories, Kame in tow. Standing at a counter that had a bunch of keitai straps, Yamapi turned to Kame.

“Kazuya, which design do you think is nice?”

“Erm…” Kame scanned the different patterns, then picked up one that caught his eye. “I think this one is quite interesting. Dunno if it’s Pi’s taste or not though.”

“I’ll get this then.”

Yamapi took the keitai strap from Kame and headed towards the counter, leaving Kame to wait for him outside the shop. When Yamapi returned, he attached the keitai strap onto his cell phone, then took Kame’s hand and placed another strap in it. It had the exact same design as the one Yamapi was now using, the one Kame had picked out.

“Eh?”

“If I ask you to remove the keitai strap you’re currently using and replace it with this one, would you?”

Kame looked at his own keitai strap, recalling the day when he and Ryo had bought it. How Ryo was the one who suggested buying it, then changed his mind, and somehow Kame ended up buying the pair and both of them started using the matching keitai straps since then. Kame understood what Yamapi was asking of him. Removing his current keitai strap and changing it to the one that Yamapi had just bought, it was equivalent to asking him to choose Yamapi over Ryo. Kame was unsure of what to do.

“Can I just use both at the same time?”

“No, you have to choose one.”

Kame bit his lip.

“You won’t remove the other one, would you?” Yamapi said, voice tinged with annoyance. “If you have to choose, in the end you’ll pick Ryo, wouldn’t you?”

“This keitai strap is a symbol of my friendship with Ryo. If I remove it, then it’ll be like I don’t treasure my friendship with Ryo-chan.” Kame explained. “But it doesn’t mean I’m choosing him over you. That’s why I want to use the one you gave to me too. I want to use both.”

“You can’t always have both, Kazuya.”

“I-”

“You know what? Forget it. Forget that I even asked.”

“Pi…”

“I’m going off now. Bye.”

Yamapi stalked off in a huff, never turning back, leaving Kame behind.

    *is still jumping around*
Aw~ I’m so happy u finally posted it up! *hearts*
And I’m also happy that Jin didn’t get to appear more than for this one scene *gets killed by Akame-fans* XD Haha, no seriously, he’d just make things even more complicated right now, while Kame and Ryo needed to figure their issues out first ^.~
Kame constantly sulking just makes me wanna pat him all the time – So cute *laughs* It’s a pity Yamapi never got to stay close to him for long, but well, shouldn’t have Ryo get jealous, too, right now, ne? *pats Ryo as well for having to bear with a jealous!Kame* *rofl*
Speaking of Ryo, for some reason the ‘Yamapi’s willing slave’ term had me crack up so badly. Wonder if he’d really go as far as become a willing slave for Pi like Kame suspects XD
    And I loved this part:
“But I like Kame too.” Yamapi stated easily.

“Yamapi, you’re making this whole thing more complicated. Don’t make the shape even weirder!”

    “It’s still a square.”

    “Oh yeah, you’re right.”
    ————————————–
    Yay for Taisuke’s logic! XDDD
But to keep it a square I’m sure Jin will have to show up again soon. Really curious how this next encounter is going to be~
So, don’t forget (haha, as if my constant bugging would let u forget about it XD) to post the next chapter up on Kame’s bday, ne? ^_______________________^

    @Chapter 1
See! It’s posted! It’s posted even if Idol-chan said it wasn’t going to be~! x3 And it’s 6 pages of a lovely, printed ficcy~ It’s even more lovely than the…oh my, I forgot mom bought be doughnuts! *looks at the clock* It’s past 11 pm ;___;~ Too late for sweets…

I absolutely loved the “keitai strap” quarrel~ I’m obessed with matching straps and it was so cute~ Ryo-chan is really mean to Kame sometimes ^_^; Such a baka. But on the other hand it was incredibly sweet how when he asked Jin to go on a date with Kame, but lied to Kame later~ *glomps both of them* Just why was Jin simply sitting there and not even noticing them? Should I feel sorry for him, because he was tired or scold him for ignoring others? *blinks*

I laughed at Pi’s conspiracy… So childish. So was the conversation with Taisuke…. How come you guys make them so…how to put it not to offend the boys… well… stupid? XD

“See! Three! There’s one more I don’t know about!”
“Eh, Kame, I was talking about you.” – my favorite part xD So clueless it hurts~!

Sho-kun’s “time-out” also fitted there perfectly. Is his mind ever off the court? Of course, if Nino isn’t around?

Eh, Nino was lucky to get that surprise bday party. It had to be a surprise if it was a week earlier, nee. Such a pity it usually happenes in fanfiction and movies only. I’d like one, too. But before I started complaining at my friends not being creative enough, I dropped my jaw at Taisuke’s announcement. That boy is scary ^_^; *glomps Taisuke* Or maybe Yamapi the Drama Queen is the scary one..?

“childhood sweethearts” = OMG XDDD I envy Sho for not being jealous and killing Pi XD He’s so calm *admires Sho*

    Ryo-chan’s talk at the end…SWEET ;___;

So. Do I really have to say it was – - – perfect? *fangirls* It’s good to know that I don’t =^____^=

Oh, but the way, I’ll just use the opportunity and compliment the new layout! ^_^ It’s extremely loveable. It’s just a pity that it’s black… Black is no good, too dark for me… But it’s cute anyway **^__^** Yay~! *glomps the layout*

Just stab be for being so irrationally cheerful today *hides*

    *glomps the authors*
