Chapter Twelve
“Are you sure you don’t want to go back to bed?”
“…” Silence, followed by a mild nod.
“But you really look like you should be resting, not going for training.” Yamapi frowned, as he continued to look at the lithe figure next to him at the breakfast table, who was picking at his food.
“What did you two do last night after I slept? How come Kame’s not feeling well this morning?” Jin asked bluntly, rewarding himself with a glare from Yamapi, and a smack on the head from MatsuJun.
“Itai! What? What did I say?” Jin’s protest was ignored, as Yamapi turned his attention back to Kame.
“You should just rest today, Kame-chan.”
“I’m feeling better.” Kame said weakly, as Yamapi brushed aside his fringe and felt his forehead.
“Usotsuki, you’re having a fever!”
“Kame, if you’re not feeling well, you should rest na.” Okada said as Morita added. “Yeah. I’ll just let the coaches know.”
“No, really. I’m okay to train.”
“You’re not.” Yamapi refuted.
“I am.” Kame insisted.
“You’re not.”
“I am.” Whine.
“Kamenashi Kazuya, don’t be silly! You’re not training and that’s settled!” Yamapi’s raised voice surprised everyone including Kame, who had a look of a hurt puppy.
“Pi, you yelled at me.” Hurt puppy look.
“Ah, gomen, gomen. I didn’t mean to shout, but-”
“You called me silly.” Hurt puppy look.
“Gomen ne. I’m just worried.”
“I wanna go for training.”
“But-”
“I wanna go for training.” Whine. Pout.
“Kame-chan-”
“I wanna go for training!”
Morita felt the hair on his forearms stand up at the scene playing out before him. Geez. “Ja, Kamenashi can just come for the session and do some light training. If he still doesn’t feel well, he can just sit on the sidelines or go back and rest.”
“Sou, sou.” Jin nodded in agreement as Yamapi bit his lip, contemplating. But upon seeing Kame’s puppy look again, he gave in and nodded too.
As the rest went back to eating, and Kame continued picking at his food, Yamapi sighed in frustration and pulled Kame’s hand away. Using Kame’s fork, he grabbed a piece of fried tofu and proceeded to feed the other boy. Kame hesitated at first, feeling his heart beat quicken a little, as silence filled the air around the table and everyone paused for a few seconds. There was a sense of deja vu, but this time, the awkwardness quickly dissipated, as Okada and Morita returned to eating quietly, MatsuJun merely made a knowing face, while Jin grinned at them happily but surprisingly kept quiet.
“I actually think you should be eating porridge.” Yamapi frowned as Kame chewed on the piece of fried tofu. He then disappeared for a few moments and returned with a small bowl of hot porridge. Scooping a spoonful of it, Yamapi blew lightly to cool it down, before feeding Kame once more.
“So sweet.” They heard a soft mumble from opposite them. Upon noticing their attention on him, and seeing Yamapi’s stare, Jin quickly continued eating, afraid that Yamapi might give him a kick.
Kame smiled. He felt slightly better already, having Yamapi fuss over him like that and even feeding him. Though his head still hurt a bit. Kame wasn’t sure now if he was just having a headache or he was feeling dizzy from happiness. After breakfast, Yamapi had tried once more to convince him to return to bed to rest, but gave up when Kame started to whine again. Kame knew he shouldn’t behave so childishly, but he was sometimes like that when he wasn’t feeling well, and he was secretly amused by the fact that Yamapi was almost helpless against his pouts and whines.
His weapon didn’t work against Kimura-sensei though. Morita had told their coach about Kame not feeling well, so that Kame would be allowed to do light training. But Kame ended up being asked to sit on the bench and take timings of the rest running laps. The only thing Kame was glad about was that at least he didn’t suffer Nino’s fate of having to clean basketballs and the gym floor, but missing out on training was bad enough. He couldn’t help wanting to kick Morita for telling Kimura-sensei.
After taking the timings, Kame found he had nothing else to do while the others started shooting hoops, doing lay-ups, and playing a bit of one-on-one. He still felt a slight throbbing pain in his head, but really wanted to join in. Seeing Kimura-sensei standing there though, he knew there was no chance. Curling up on the bench, he buried his head in his knees and before he knew it, he had dozed off.

Yamapi was glad that Kame wasn’t allowed to participate in training that day. He wouldn’t know how he would react if Kame was to faint in the middle of training. He’d probably panic and go completely bonkers and Nino would have to knock some sense into him.
As he was playing one-on-one with Jin, he was distracted by the sight of Kame curled up in a ball, sleeping on the bench. Noticing that Yamapi wasn’t paying attention, Jin took the chance to score, then turned to see what Yamapi was looking at, though it wasn’t hard to guess.
“Ah, kawaii!” Jin remarked when he noticed Kame sleeping. He placed a hand on Yamapi’s shoulder. “Yamashita-kun, if you don’t want Kame, can I have him?” Yamapi shot a death glare at Jin, who immediately retracted his hand and waved dismissively. “Joudan! Joudan!”
“What’s the score now?” Yamapi reluctantly turned his attention away from Kame.
“I’m one shot away from winning.” Jin grinned. “Scored while you were busy going gaga over your Kazu-chan.”
“Cheat.” Yamapi muttered.
“Hey, it’s not my fault that you were so distracted.” Jin stuck his tongue out. “Anyway, why don’t you tell your coach that you’re sick too so that you can accompany Kame, ne, ne?”
“Haha.” Yamapi rolled his eyes, then proceeded to try to sneak past Jin but the latter managed to steal the ball away, and soon scored to claim victory.
“Yatta!” Jin raised his arms in the air. “Now you can go accompany Kame. And your coach is gone too so we can relax a little. Yosh!”
Taking up Jin’s suggestion, Yamapi walked over to where Kame was. As cute as the sight before him was, Yamapi was worried that Kame would end up feeling sore from sleeping in that position, and wondered if he should wake the latter up and persuade him to go back to bed. But at the same time, he didn’t really want to wake Kame up either. So he squatted next to Kame, watching, but not doing anything.
Kame stirred just then. “… Pi?”
“Ah, gomen, did I wake you up?” Yamapi asked worriedly, as he looked for a bottle of water to pass to Kame. Kame shook his head as he took the bottle of water from Yamapi. “Here, you should drink lots of water.”
Kame obediently downed half the bottle of water, before grinning at Yamapi. He tugged at Yamapi’s sleeve. “Pi…”
“Nani?”
“I’m feeling better. Can I train?”
Yamapi raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure your fever has gone down?”
“Yeah!” Kame suddenly leaned in towards Yamapi and rested his forehead against the latter’s, before pulling back quickly when he realised how close their lips were. Both parties felt the temperature in their cheeks rising, and Kame looked away from Yamapi, choosing to stare at the bottle of water in his hands instead. “Uh, yeah, er, my forehead didn’t feel hot right? See, the fever’s gone down.”
The tugging of the sleeve, the touching of foreheads… everything about Kame seemed so adorable right now that Yamapi wondered how he could still sit there and not do anything about it.
Suddenly, Jin’s face appeared next to them. “Why are you two blushing?” He asked teasingly.
“Urusai.” Yamapi said as he moved slightly away from Jin.
“Hey, Kame, you’re looking much more genki.” Jin pinched Kame’s cheeks. “Yappari, with Yamashita-kun taking care of you, you can get better faster.”
“Sawaru na.” Yamapi slapped Jin’s hands away, much to Jin’s amusement.
“So Kame is feeling much better right?” Jin asked Kame again, who nodded. Jin did a victory sign. “That’s great! Cos training with Yamashita-kun is not fun at all. He’s always so distracted and likes to shoot death glares at me.”
“Oi.”
Kame laughed. “Pi doesn’t seem to want to let me train though.”
Yamapi sighed. “Okay, fine, fine. I’ll tell Kimura-sensei to let you train if he comes back. But if you feel sick again, I’m carrying you back to bed no matter what you say.”
“Carry Kame back to bed? Oooooooh.” Jin said before running away as fast as he could from Yamapi.
“Akanishi!!”
* * * * *
“Ryo-chan!”
Yamapi had just returned from his shower and was about to enter the room, but stopped at the door when he heard Kame’s voice from inside. He couldn’t help but press his ear against the door, trying to listen in on the phone conversation. How he wished that he could hear what Ryo was saying too, instead of relying solely on Kame’s side of the conversation.
“You sound really happy. Why? Are you so happy to hear my voice?”
“Don’t be so full of yourself ne, Ryo-chan. I’m happy about other things.”
“Like what? Oh wait, is it because of Akanishi? Since you’re in the same team as him.”
“No, it’s not because of Jin. I already told you that I don’t like him in that way anymore.” Kame said. “But oh, speaking about Jin, he’s really funny! And he’s been sleeping over in our room for the past two nights so I let him have my bed.”
“And what, you slept on the floor? Hyouyama players were bullying you and you didn’t tell me earlier?”
“Nah I wasn’t being bullied. And I didn’t sleep on the floor. I shared the bed with Pi!” Kame replied happily.
Yamapi, who had heard what Kame said, started panicking. Kame-chan, why did you have to tell Ryo?! He’s going to get mad at me thinking that I’m stealing you from him!
“Eh? You slept with Yamapi? That’s unfair. I wanna share a bed with him. I bet that he didn’t like sharing the bed with you because you probably took up most of the space.”
“I didn’t! You can ask him! I’ll get Pi to tell you.”
Ask me what? Yamapi thought worriedly. Was Ryo asking if Kame and I did anything?!
“Well, even if you didn’t take up most of the space, I’m sure he’ll have preferred if he got to share the bed with someone else, like me for example.”
“As if Pi would wanna share a bed with you!” Kame remarked. “It’s a good thing you’re not in the basketball club or Pi will never get any peace with you around, hitting on him all the time.”
Eh? Ryo-chan wants to share a bed with me? Yamapi heaved a sigh of relief. That would mean that Ryo-chan isn’t angry with me for sharing the bed with Kame-chan right?
“By the way, have you told Uchi-kun?” Kame’s voice grew excited as he changed the topic.
“No. What do you expect me to do? Walk right up to him and say ‘Hey Hiroki, I love you, can we return to being lovers?’ just like that?”
“Yeah, why not?”
“Do you know how embarrassing that is?”
“Hey, you said that you were willing to give up your other half for your one true love, surely doing something like that is not as big a deal as giving up your other half? Or are you saying I’m actually not that important compared to your pride?”
“Yeah.”
“Oi!” Kame whined. “If you don’t get Uchi-kun back, don’t think you can just come crying back to me.”
“I’ll definitely get him back, as long as the stupid doubles partner of his gets the hell away from him.”
“Ooh, you have a love rival?” Kame asked. “Then shouldn’t you act faster? What if Uchi-kun chooses the other person over you?”
“Please, that guy is nothing compared to me.”
“Well saying that won’t get you Uchi-kun so you better take action soon.”
“Hey, why do you keep bugging me about Uchi this, Uchi that? Almost sounds as if you’re the one who’s interested in him. Anyway, I called you to ask you how you were, not to talk about my love life.”
“Hm, was a little sick this morning but I’m super genki now so don’t worry.”
“You sure you’re okay?”
“Yep. Feeling really happy right now.”
“I can tell. What exactly are you so happy about anyway?”
“I dunno. Just happy.”
“You didn’t take too much sugar or something did you? Mistaking it for medicine.”
“Of course not!”
“Well, anyway, I gotta go now. Stupid fellow is hanging around Uchi again. Ja.”
“Hai, hai. Quick go get Uchi-kun back! Otherwise, I’m not going to be your other half anymore. Bye bye!” Kame said as he ended a call.
Outside, Yamapi was deep in thought. Even though he couldn’t hear what Ryo had said, he could tell that at least Ryo wasn’t angry with him, and that Kame sounded very enthusiastic about getting Ryo back together with Uchi.
“Who’s Uchi-kun?” A voice said behind him, causing Yamapi to jump in surprise. He turned to see Jin behind him, ear also pressed against the door.
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, I was on my way here but saw you standing here listening so I didn’t dare disturb you and decided to find out what you were listening to.” Jin replied easily.
“You’re staying over again?”
“Of course. Don’t you want me to?” Jin grinned knowingly. Yamapi did think that Jin’s ‘disturbance’ was rather useful in the sense that he got to share a bed with Kame, and couldn’t exactly say that he wasn’t happy to have Jin over again. But he ignored Jin’s question and entered his room, letting Jin follow behind.
“Pi, you’re back from your shower.” Kame smiled at him as he walked in, before looking at the person behind him. “Oh Jin, you’re here.”
“Yeah, this guy was standing outside with his ear against the door.” Yamapi retorted. Jin looked at him and was about to protest that Yamapi, too, was doing the same, but decided to let Yamapi off this time.
“Ah, gomen nasai.” Jin scratched his head, answering sheepishly. Then he remembered what he wanted to ask. “Ne, ne, who’s Uchi-kun? Is he your boyfriend?”
“Uchi-kun? He’s my best friend’s boyfriend.”
“Sou, sou.” Jin nodded. “Then were you talking to your boyfriend earlier?”
Kame chuckled. “No, I was talking to Ryo-chan, my best friend.”
“Oh, I see, I see.” Jin was about to ask another question, when there was a knock on the door, and MatsuJun strolled in, grabbing Jin by the back of his t-shirt. “Hey!”
“Please stop being a disturbance to other people and come back to our room.” MatsuJun said sternly. “And stop telling people that I’ve been a bully who kicks you out every night.”
“But you do bully me!” Jin whined.
MatsuJun ignored him and continued dragging him out of the room as Yamapi and Kame watched in amusement.
As the door closed behind them, Kame jumped into his bed and laid there in a star-fish like manner on his bed, moving his arms and legs. “Uwah, I finally get to sleep in my own bed tonight!”
Yamapi couldn’t help but smile at the other boy’s movements. “Kawaii.”
“‘Eh? Nani?” Kame yawned, as he asked absentmindedly.
“Uh, nothing.” Yamapi said quickly. “Anyway, don’t you think that Akanishi really has no shame, always stealing your bed, so you have to share mine- I mean, not that I mind you sharing mine. I mean, erm, did you check your bed for baka germs? Ah hahahaha. So erm , you just spoke to Ryo-chan?”
There was no reply from Kame. Yamapi looked over and saw that the other had already fallen asleep, blanket kicked to the floor. He chuckled at the sight, before moving over to pick up Kame’s blanket and tucked in the latter. Switching off the lights, Yamapi sighed as he got into his own bed.
His bed felt extremely big that night, a bit too big for one person, Yamapi thought. He lay there, eyes wide opened, unable to sleep. Few nights of sharing the bed with Kame made it uncomfortable for Yamapi now to sleep alone there. He missed the feel of Kame next to him, Kame’s smell, Kame’s warmth.Yamapi turned to his left, staring out at the window, but the faint moonlight was shining through the curtains and onto his face, making it even harder for Yamapi to fall asleep. He turned to his right, where Kame was deep in a peaceful slumber, and listened to the other’s soft breathing.
Kame turned in his sleep just then, facing him, the moonlight shone lightly on Kame’s face, but the latter didn’t stir. Yamapi mentally ran his fingers through Kame’s hair, over Kame’s closed eyelids, nose, lips… He couldn’t take it anymore.
Yamapi quickly got out of his bed and moved towards Kame, lifting up Kame’s blanket and squeezing in as Kame automatically moved to the other side of the bed. Making sure that Kame was still asleep, Yamapi covered themselves with the blanket once more, and snuggled close towards the other boy. It was a matter of seconds before Yamapi closed his eyes and fell asleep.

awwww how sweeett hahaha i didn’t go on a-baka to read this..actually im not even sure if u posted it on a-baka..but AWWWW kame and ryo!!! hhehehe well if part 2 is gonna be up by kame’s birthday..thats only 3 more days! ganbatte!! im looking forward to it~~ what happens with akanishi?? =]] and why dont sho and nino tell the others..? i was waiting so long for the 2nd part hahaah i read double quite a while ago =DD heheh thx for writing!!

And I’m also happy that Jin didn’t get to appear more than for this one scene *gets killed by Akame-fans* XD Haha, no seriously, he’d just make things even more complicated right now, while Kame and Ryo needed to figure their issues out first ^.~
Kame constantly sulking just makes me wanna pat him all the time – So cute *laughs* It’s a pity Yamapi never got to stay close to him for long, but well, shouldn’t have Ryo get jealous, too, right now, ne? *pats Ryo as well for having to bear with a jealous!Kame* *rofl*
Speaking of Ryo, for some reason the ‘Yamapi’s willing slave’ term had me crack up so badly. Wonder if he’d really go as far as become a willing slave for Pi like Kame suspects XD
And I loved this part:
“But I like Kame too.” Yamapi stated easily.
“Yamapi, you’re making this whole thing more complicated. Don’t make the shape even weirder!”
“It’s still a square.”
“Oh yeah, you’re right.”

See! It’s posted! It’s posted even if Idol-chan said it wasn’t going to be~! x3 And it’s 6 pages of a lovely, printed ficcy~ It’s even more lovely than the…oh my, I forgot mom bought be doughnuts! *looks at the clock* It’s past 11 pm ;___;~ Too late for sweets…
I absolutely loved the “keitai strap” quarrel~ I’m obessed with matching straps and it was so cute~ Ryo-chan is really mean to Kame sometimes ^_^; Such a baka. But on the other hand it was incredibly sweet how when he asked Jin to go on a date with Kame, but lied to Kame later~ *glomps both of them* Just why was Jin simply sitting there and not even noticing them? Should I feel sorry for him, because he was tired or scold him for ignoring others? *blinks*
I laughed at Pi’s conspiracy… So childish. So was the conversation with Taisuke…. How come you guys make them so…how to put it not to offend the boys… well… stupid? XD
“See! Three! There’s one more I don’t know about!”
“Eh, Kame, I was talking about you.” – my favorite part xD So clueless it hurts~!
Sho-kun’s “time-out” also fitted there perfectly. Is his mind ever off the court? Of course, if Nino isn’t around?
Eh, Nino was lucky to get that surprise bday party. It had to be a surprise if it was a week earlier, nee. Such a pity it usually happenes in fanfiction and movies only. I’d like one, too. But before I started complaining at my friends not being creative enough, I dropped my jaw at Taisuke’s announcement. That boy is scary ^_^; *glomps Taisuke* Or maybe Yamapi the Drama Queen is the scary one..?

yay! I really liked this. and yup, it was really sweet of Ryo to ask Jin out for Kame even though he likes him. poor Ryo, and I loved sulking and jealous Kame! ^_^ I also agree with SumeragiAeka about the layout. Love the pictures used, and looking forward to reading the next chapter!

ohhhhhhh…. this is great! i read “double” not too long ago and really enjoyed it. i’m so glad you’re now writing (another, lol) fic with a prominent kame… and potentionally one of my favorite pairings, too.
